Those who forged the metal blade of the Samurai sword were employed directly by the royalty of the day, by the government or by the feudal lords of theìr area. The talents and abilities of these blacksmiths were honored and each of the swords that they made were produced specifically for a feudal lord, a shogun or a Samurai warrior.
The Katana swords of the Samurai warrior were not just considered a weapon, but were also regarded as an extension of the pride, honor and ego of the Samurai. Additionally, the swords of Samurai warriors are considered to be one of the three treasures of Japanese culture; sacred, alongside the Comma Shaped Beads and the Sacred Mirror. As early as 3 B.C., ìn Japanese history, the Samurai sword was used ìn ceremonies as offerings to the gods.
In later times, the Japanese Katana swords became a symbol of the honor code of the Samurai warriors. Even today, the Samurai swords are respected by many because ìt is considered to be an embodiment of the ancient culture of Japan.
